Jessie Benton Evans paintings

Southwestern Landscapes: Aspen Rainbow

"Coming to her paintings is like coming to an oasis... (Like) Charles Burchfield, but the symbolism is more revved up. She approaches William Blake."

Landscapes, acrylics. "Flagstaff, Arizona is like all areas where leaves change, you can be enveloped by color. Going down a lane through an Aspen grove, everything is gold…the golden road, the trees beside and above you are gold -- you are surrounded by gold infused with light. We were painting San Francisco Peaks and when it rained, it actually snowed on top of the peaks."
