"I love color. And fruit and vegetables are very beautiful to me. I have a special feeling for them; find a special meaning in them. Clearly, the golden melons are the 'stars' of these pastels, the focal points of the compositions and expressive content. Perhaps only mystics or artists who have closely examined and visually studied the things of life will see or sense the timeless meaning and presence contained in these glowing fruits of the earth. Interestingly, as a child, I was even then making colored crayon drawings of carrots, beets and other vegetables, giving them faces, arms and legs, turning them into people."
