Pastels, caseins of flowers, amaryllis, day-lilies. "As an artist, I'm obviously painting these flowers for their beauty. The lilies were growing in our garden. The amaryllis were in a vase in the studio. I placed them against a favorite piece of fabric I use in still-lifes with birds, butterflies and floral patterns on it. I deliberately flatten the space to make the fabric flowers nearly as important as the real ones, working to achieve as much visual and poetic richness as possible."
