Paintings in casein of black dogs, moons, autumn leaves. "This painting is about beauty…beauty of form, color and light. But it is also about Berry. Here, she is literally part of heavenly luminosity…sheer beauty of light. I put the two quarters in the sky simply because it felt right to do it. They were round and luminous like the moon, and I wanted to fill up the empty space on the right. I may have seen a quarter on a nearby table that gave me the idea. I held it in my hand while painting it. My desire for balance put another quarter under her paw. I placed a lamp behind the still-life to cast the shadows toward the viewer and give appropriate highlights as if coming from the moon and sky. The dried leaves and two peppers speak of their own particular beauty, but also of death versus the fullness of life."
